In the Slot is a Tower of Power album released in 1975. It was their last studio album for Warner Bros. Records. It also marked the debut of new vocalist Hubert Tubbs. David Garibaldi returns to the drummer's throne after being absent from the previous album Urban Renewal (save for one track), although the drummer from that album, David Bartlett, does appear as a background vocalist on this album, as does Garibaldi's next successor, Ron Beck. 'Ebony Jam' and 'Drop It in the Slot' were sampled on the Beastie Boys' 1989 album Paul's Boutique.

Tower of Power is an American R&B-based horn section and band, originating in Oakland, California, that has been performing since 1968. There have been a number of lead vocalists, the most well-known being Lenny Williams, who fronted the band between early 1973 and late 1974, the period of their greatest commercial success. They have landed a total of eight songs on the Billboard Hot 100; their highest-charting songs include 'You're Still a Young Man', 'So Very Hard to Go', 'What Is Hip?', and 'Don't Change Horses '.

The Beastie Boys were an American hip hop group from New York City formed in 1981. The group comprised Michael 'Mike D' Diamond, Adam 'MCA' Yauch and Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz.

Paul's Boutique is the second studio album by the American hip hop group Beastie Boys. Released on July 25, 1989, on Capitol Records, it was produced by the Dust Brothers. Apart from the group's vocals, the album is almost entirely composed of samples. Recorded in Matt Dike's apartment and the Record Plant in Los Angeles from 1988 to 1989, and mixed at the Record Plant, Paul's Boutique did not match the sales of the Beastie Boys' debut album Licensed to Ill, and Capitol made little effort to promote it. As its popularity grew in the years following, it became recognized as breakthrough achievement and a classic hip-hop landmark. Its innovative lyrical and sonic style earned the Beastie Boys' a position as critical favorites within the hip-hop community. Sometimes described as the 'Sgt. Pepper of hip-hop', the album's rankings near the top of many publications' 'best albums' lists in disparate genres has given Paul's Boutique critical recognition as a landmark album in hip hop.
